Here at MI Law Firms we understand that taking legal action can be a very stressful, taxing, and many times overwhelming. We have created an area on our website designated for some informative discourse, some links to visit, as well some general guidance in our respective specializations.
The Residential Tenancies act, is the act in Ontario that governs all landlord and tenant affairs.
Things such as above guidelines rent increases, issues of standard of care, and even things like unit maintain/fit for habitation are listed in the act as duties of both landlord, and tenants. As a tenant when you have discovered or encountered an invasion of privacy, a nuisance of some sort, realistically anything that violates what the law considers “reasonable enjoyment” you are legally entitled for compensation or a remedy awarded by the board based on your request. On the other hand, when a tenant is failing to pay rent, damaging the landlord’s property, or failing to keep good faith with the landlord, the landlord is legal entitled to bring such claim to LTB using a form describing there issue in depth. For more information about the RTA, you can visit it here. For landlord and tenant forms you can visit here
More often then not when people hear the term ‘provincial offences’ they do not know what area of law this classifies. Provincial Offences govern driving infractions on the road. Things such as distracted driving, speeding, and parking infractions are apart of provincial offences. Although these infractions are minimal to the effect they take on your criminal record, they are extremely costly, and may be indicative of carelessness or negligence. Infractions that are part I or part II, we at MI Law Firms can represent you if the presiding officer/crown prosecution selects a summary conviction; meaning he/she chooses to charge you under 5’000 dollars and/or under 6 months in prison. We highly suggest you contact us for a consultation if you are charged under POA (Provincial Offences act). If you would like to venture an understanding of the POA you can visit it here.
